Rudy was born on July 11th, 1927 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and lived on and off in Indonesia, where his father was an Engineer at a Technical School in Semarang. In 1956 he immigrated to Canada and made his home in Calgary, Alberta. There he worked as a Surveyor for the City of Calgary for about thirty years. After he retired, he moved to Vernon, B.C. to be with his friends.

Rudy passed away peacefully on December 28th, 2016 at the North Okanagan Hospice and will be greatly missed by his friends in Holland and Canada. He is no longer physically here, but will always be remembered because of the cherished memories of him that are in the hearts of those he has left behind. We are thankful for the gift of his life and the time we were able to spend with him. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelis Johannes Baay and Johanna Cornelia Baay (nee Smith).

Cremation preceded the Funeral Service which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 21st, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Len Mittelstaedt officiating. A Reception will follow in the Bethel Tea Room.

One of Rudy’s particular passions was financially supporting the vital work of Doctors without Borders. We know that he would be delighted if those who wish to do so would send donations in his memory to this wonderful charity – Doctors without Borders, Suite #402 - 720 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M5S 2T9.

We, Rudy’s friends wish to thank the North Okanagan Hospice staff and volunteers who cared so compassionately for him. All of you are the angels who see not only the aging bodies, but also the vibrant human beings who need and deserve love and dignity.
