Russell Weir Dickson
Born March 24, 1930 in Montreal, Quebec to James and Effie Dickson and passed away on December 12, 2012 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Russ’s first love was his family. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Colleen, and their five children Judy, Tim, Marni, Barb, and Jane, as well as by his 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He will also be missed by an enormous extended family, including his loving sister, Anne, and a dear nephew, Gary.
Russ, Colleen, and children moved to Vernon in 1973 after Russ sold his electric tool remanufacturing plant in Edmonton, which he had designed, built, and operated for 15 years. In Vernon, he quickly became a pillar of the local community. He was a businessman with his second electric motor business and a founding member of the men’s club at All Saint’s Anglican Church.
His second greatest love was flying, both as a private pilot and as a rebuilder of classic aircraft.
Russ missed his calling as an engineer because he was too busy designing, building, fixing, and improving the world for all around him.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church, 3205 27 Street, Vernon. Reception will follow in the parish hall.
Donations in Russ’s memory to All Saints Anglican Church would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
