Nov 24, 1920 - Jan 3, 2018
Wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and community volunteer.

Ruth was predeceased by Stan, her loving husband of 73 years, in January 2017, and by her son David in 2014 (Judith).

She will be lovingly missed by her sons, Don (Andrea) and Gerry (Linda), and her daughter, Barbara (Laurie) and their families.

Mum was destined for university when World War Two broke out and instead, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force based in Trenton, Ontario. It was there she met Dad. They were married in Montreal and soon found themselves living in Vancouver while Dad completed his teacher training at UBC. They lived briefly in Lumby and then in Vernon for 72 years.

Mum was a busy parent of four children living on a country property on the east edge of Vernon. She returned to work as a bookkeeper and office manager once we were all in school.

Ruth was the President of the Hospital Auxiliary (1964 and 1970) and volunteered in their gift shop. She was a member of the United Church women's friendship circle and a volunteer in the church library. She was a member of Kinettes, and she sang in the David de Wolf choir. She was President of Toastmistresses.

Mum enjoyed golfing into her 80's and she made the best lemon, apple and butterscotch pies. She loved the horse races and a good game of bridge. She taught her grandchildren how to make sandcastles with turrets. She kept family and friends connected with many cards, letters, e-mails and Skype.

Dad and Mum enjoyed traveling throughout the world to Russia, most of Europe, Cypress, Tanzania, the Caribbean, New Zealand and Australia. They lived in Antigua, Germany and St. Lucia where they forged lifelong friendships; but more than anywhere else, they made, and nurtured, a wide circle of friends in Vernon.

A celebration of the lives of both Ruth and Stan will be held at the Trinity United Church, 3300 Alexis Park Drive, Vernon, V1T 1S4, Saturday May 12, 2018 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Ruth, can be made to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 27 Avenue, Vernon B.C. V1T 1S4.
