RUTH ELIZABETH ANDREWS

RUTH ELIZABETH ANDREWS

It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to our mother Ruth Elizabeth Andrews who passed away at Hospice House in Vernon BC on May 7, 2015. Mom was born to Henry and Caroline Edelman in Herbert Saskatchewan on November 6, 1924, the second youngest of eight children. When mom was very young the family moved to Peace River Alberta and settled into farming life in the Smoky River Valley.  Mom joined the CWAC (Canadian Women’s Army Corp) during WW11 and after discharge, worked as a secretary until her marriage to Tom Andrews in Peace River on November 8, 1947. Mom and dad farmed in the Judah area until 1967 when they  moved with their seven children to the family farm in Lumby BC. Mom spent many enjoyable hours on horseback driving the cattle herd to the range and enjoyed listening to the ‘boys’ talk farming  at the kitchen table when she could no longer actively farm. Gardening and fresh air were a few of her favorite things. Mom was predeceased by her brothers and sisters and by our dad who passed away in October 1999. She is survived by her seven: children Bob (Jo Ann) of West Kelowna, Pam (JIm Massey) of Kamloops, Gary (Debi) of Lumby, Bev (Andy Charest) of Lumby, Murray (Lisa) of Lumby, Doug (Gisele) of Lavington and Sheila (Stu Guttormson) of Lumby and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger brother George Edelman (Fran) of Ponoka, Alberta.

No service by request. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer with family and friends. Mom’s ashes will be joined with those of our dad and scattered in the hills where they drove their cattle herd by horseback to the range every year. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to North Okanagan Hospice Society
