In loving memory ~
Ruth Evangeline Dunham (née Toews) passed away peacefully on February 14, 2023, at her daughter's home in Armstrong, BC.
She is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her five daughters Rowena (Aubrey), Laura (Daniel), Denise (Douglas), Arlene (Steve), and Susan; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters Evelyn, Bertha, Darlene, Dianne, and Carol; brother Walter; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her son David, husband Robert, brothers Paul, Norman, and Harry, and sister Eva.
Ruth was born in St- Pierre-Jolys, MB on May 11, 1931, to Heinrich and Aganetha Toews (née Schulz). She moved to the Fraser Valley with her family in 1942 and married Robert Dunham in 1950. Ruth and Bob started their family in Langley, moved to Kanaka Bar, and settled in Hedley. After Bob passed, Ruth lived in Lytton and spent her final years in Ashcroft.
As resourceful as she was generous, Ruth was a pillar of support to her family and community. Among her many impressive skills were sewing, carpentry, and cooking. She worked in many restaurants, including a few of her own. An avid reader, a lifelong gardener, and an engaging storyteller-conversation with Ruth had a way of making you feel right at home. Many thanks to Ruth's daughter Rowena and her granddaughter Laura for the love and care they gave Nana in her final weeks.
Special thank-you to Katy Mclachlan (nurse practitioner) and the Armstrong * Enderby Community Palliative team.
