Sheila Anne Oien

Anne passed away peacefully at Hospice House, knowing she was loved by her family and friends.

Anne was born in England, spent part of her childhood in India, then immigrated to Canada at the age of six with her family.

Her education was obtained at public school, private convent and UBC.

She leaves behind her daughters Elizabeth Fensom (Brian) and Carolyn Laidman-Betts (Greg); granddaughter Brittany Huddart and step granddaughter Tara Betts (Ken Sullivan) and step great-granddaughter Audra Sullivan.

Anne loved the arts and was equally passionate about astronomy and alpine flowers. She helped her community as an advocate for Vernon’s first public library and as a pioneer board member of Vernon Hospice House. She was an active guide leader for many years, a volunteer with the Sovereign Lakes cross country ski club, the Wholistic Living Centre and the Allan Brooks Nature Society.

Her celebration of life will be held at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Sunday, May 16th at 2:00pm. A tea will follow.

In lieu of donations it is Anne’s wish that donations be sent to either Allan Brooks Nature Centre, Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation

or Vernon Hospice House.
