Shelby was born in Kelowna on September 8th, 1985, moving to Vernon at age 4. She attended Beairsto School for Kindergarten and Grade one, going on to Harwood School and then graduating from Seaton School. Shelby had many interests growing up – ballet, swimming, karate and her all time favourite, snowboarding. Moving to Whistler was a dream come true for her. While at Whistler, she met so many great people and employers; most of all, Kevin, the love of her life.
Shelby was diagnosed with Leukemia in February 2009 and spent a very hard year undergoing treatments which included a bone marrow transplant. Finally she succumbed to Leukemia on January 29th, 2010 at the age of 24 years. Through all this suffering, Shelby kept her glowing smile and zest for life. We have all been touched by her smile and sparkling brown eyes!
Shelby is survived by her loving parents, Larry and Bev of Vernon, one brother, Shawn of Calgary, the love of her life, Kevin Bartkowski of Prince George, grandparents, Bert and Sylvia Graf of Kelowna, grandmother, Arselie Prosser of Kelowna, great grandmother, Tina Dale of Calgary, very special great aunt, Una, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her grandfathers, John Boldt and Ivan Prosser.
