May 27, 1933 - Jan 11, 2018
Shirley's family is saddened to announce her passing after a brief illness in hospital.  An active member of the community, after her retirement from the School District office she continued to volunteer at the Performing Arts Centre and was a keen member of her outdoor hiking and quilting groups. Her two boys Reid and Grant kept her hopping throughout their growing years, and they provided her with the best gift of all, grandchildren.  She was known for being a proud supporter of whatever activity they were involved in, and always present to cheer them on.

Born in Chemainus BC on May 27, 1933, Shirley loved to travel and did so frequently, with her friends and family.  On her "bucket list" was a return trip to the Island, which two of her grandchildren, Jade and Leah provided, just weeks before she became ill.  Shirley had such delight showing them around her old home area, and introducing them to familiar places and more family members.

Shirley left firm instructions (as she was known for) that there should not be a service to remember her, but rather a catered social to gather and enjoy each others company as we share our memories of a very special lady.

Her 4 year old Great Granddaughter has suggested that we should all take a walk in the forest to remember Gram Shirl, as that was her favorite place to be.  Shirley's taken her final hike now, leaving behind sons Reid and Grant, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

The family would like you to join us as we celebrate her life on Sat Feb 24, 2018 from 2:00 - 4:00 at the Vernon Yacht Club.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vernon Funeral Home, Phone: 250 542 0155.
