In Loving Memory ~ Shirley Mae Hopps passed away peacefully on September 19th, 2021. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Edward Kyle Hopps.
She is survived by daughters Cindy (Phil), Andrea (Michael), grandchildren Michelle (Nick), Kyle (Destanie), Scott (Amy), Alex (Becci), Mila (Connor), and three great grandboys, Willem, Koen and Phillip.
While growing up in Vernon, Shirley hiked and camped with the Girl Guides and participated in a variety of sports, all with her long time friends Bertha, Fran and Joyce. Following graduation, she trained at St. Paul's Hospital to become a Registered Nurse.
Always wanting to be of service and a great organizer, Shirley was a dedicated volunteer throughout her life. She was famous for her baking, especially the family favourites, apple pie and "pink fluff"! The family estimates she baked no fewer than 2,500 pies over her lifetime.
She was an accomplished quilter and served as President of the Vernon Silver Star Quilters. She lovingly created bed quilts for her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She led a ladies walking group, cross country skied at Sovereign Lakes, lawn bowled, and golfed. She also volunteered with the One to One Reading Program at Mission Hill Elementary and the North Okanagan Valley Hospice Society.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Allan Brooks Nature Centre, Vernon B.C. The family would like to thank Dr. L. Pritchett, the staff at Orchard Valley Retirement Residence and Noric House.
Special thanks to Shirley and Ed's long-time friend and companion, Lori Baillie.
