It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother, Shirley May Stevenson on Thursday, August 9, 2007 in Lumby, B.C. at the age of 70 years. Mom was born on May 20th, 1937 at Rock Glen, Saskatchewan.
She is survived by four daughters: Dianne Rouck (Doug) of Lumby, B. C. and triplet daughters: Beverly Workhoven (Jack) of Beaumont, Alberta, Brenda Wilson-Maxwell (Dean) of Lumby, B. C., Barbara Dyck (Alan) of Coldstream, B.C. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Our mother is also survived by one brother, Allan Close of Oliver, B.C. Mother was predeceased by her parents, Ben, March 1955 and Rebecca Close, February 1991, our father, Earl Young, July 1963, her second husband, Bob Stevenson, January 2002, her brother, Bruce Close, May 2003, her sister, Lucille Nunweiler, January 2005 and her son-in-law, Craig Wilson, March 2006.
During Mom’s life she worked for B.C. Telephone in Penticton, O.I. Canada Corp. (Consumer’s Glass Plant) Lavington, School District 22, Vernon, and was self-employed, owning Joe & S Frame Straightening, Lethbridge, Alberta and a commercial cleaning business in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Mom enjoyed curling, cards, board games, camping and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Minor’s Club and the Army and Navy Club all of Lethbridge, Alberta. She especially liked cats.
Cremation will precede a service at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 15th, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, everyone is invited to a tea in the Pleasant Valley Tea Room. Interment will follow at a later date in the family plot in Oliver, B.C.
