Sigi was born in Germany ten days after the outbreak of the Second World War and endured her early years there during this conflict. She was one of seven children and after the war her parents were hard pressed to keep the family together. Sigi was sent to a cloister school run by the Catholic Church. She received her formal education there and was trained as a seamstress, an occupation she excelled at.
After leaving the cloister school she returned to her family. In 1965 she found her life dull in her small town and emigrated to Canada. She could not speak a word of English at that time. She settled in Winnipeg and self learned the English language. Sigi moved to Ontario for a while and then moved to Calgary where she eventually met and married her loving husband Clive. They had one daughter Christina who was born in 1976.
Sigi started a small dress making and repair business and was quite successful. In 1987 her husband retired and they decided to move to Vernon. Sigi became very active in volunteer work. She served for sixteen years as a volunteer at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. She also spent a number of years working in the gift shop at the Vernon Mission. Sigi was an active member of the Ladies Choir at the Schubert Centre and the Vernon Collectors Club for twenty years.
Sigi had a bubbling, cheerful personality and was well liked by all who knew her. Sadly in early 2021 she began to show signs of dementia, the symptoms rapidly getting worse and eventually she had to be placed into full time care at the Gateby Care Residence. Her rapid decline to this terrible disease resulted in the loss of speech and recognition of her loved ones.
Cremation preceded the Funeral Service which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. with Deacon Paul Murphy officiating. Sigi's family would like to thank all the care givers at Gateby Care Residence for their love and support given to Sigi during her stay there.
