Richmond (Dick) passed away peacefully Friday, Oct 21, 2011 at his home in Maple Ridge B.C.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Helvi; her children & grandchildren; a son James; and daughter-in-law Janice; three grandchildren; Robert, Paul, and Angelia (Randy) Epp; his brother Clarence (Duke), and sister in law Anna.
Dick was predeceased by his first wife Esme Jean; mother Emilie Eckert Poole; father Fred; and his Brothers – Edmund, Karl, Leonard, and Wally.
Dick was born in July 24th, 1919 in Saskatchewan. His family moved west to Vernon B.C. in 1936. It was in Vernon that Dick enlisted and subsequently served overseas as a member of Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp.
It was during his time serving overseas that Dick met and married his first wife Esme. Dick, Esme and their son James remained in Hayward’s Heath England, until their move to British Columbia in 1966. They took up residence initially in North Vancouver and then in Aldergrove B.C. until Esmes’ death in 1991.
Dick shared his final years with his second wife, Helvi, in their home in Maple Ridge B.C.
Dick had been an active Lapidarian with several B.C. Lapidary organizations, most recently as a member of the Maple Ridge Lapidary Club. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether the medium be stone, silver and/or wood. He enjoyed the time spent with family and friends; meeting with the “Senators” and being at the club. He continually gave of himself when and wherever he could. He blessed his family and friends with his giving spirit, and selfless heart, and we are grateful for the blessing of his long life.
A memorial service will take place on October 26, 2011 at 11am at the Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel. Interment to take place at Pleasant Valley Cemetery Vernon B.C at a future date (tba).
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Cross.
