December 13, 1960 - December 19, 2020
Less than a week after her 60th birthday Sonia passed away after several all-out battles with cancer. She left behind her husband of 28 years, Sotos, and two adult children, Alex and Nathan.
The family spent the past 16 years in Oxford, Pennsylvania. Sonia worked at nearby Lincoln University and was also studying to complete her degree. She was on the Deans' List every term, with no grade lower than an A except in one course where she received a B+. The University is proceeding with her graduation in the Spring of 2021.
Sonia was the daughter of Alvin and Myrtle Sullivan; sister to Pamela, Chris and David; auntie to Kate, Ashley, Megan, Brendan, Brayden and Trevor; great aunt to Kylee, Theodore and Maverick. Sonia was born in Edmonton and moved to Vernon in 1969 near the end of Grade 3. She attended Bearisto Elementary, WL Seaton, and Vernon Senior Secondary, then Okanagan College (back when it was located at the army barracks).
Sonia travelled extensively and lived in a number of places after leaving Vernon, including Vancouver, Sydney Australia, Ottawa, Orangeville Ontario, Kansas City Missouri, and Springfield Massachusetts, before settling in Oxford Pennsylvania. Sonia made life-long friends everywhere she lived and traveled, and she maintained ongoing regular contact with a great many of them.
Sonia will be remembered for her incredible ability to connect with people of all backgrounds. She was highly personable and engaging and extremely funny.
Sonia was kind, loving and generous, with a big heart and warm smile. She left this world way too early and will be very much missed.
A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam... And for a brief moment, its glory
And beauty belong to our world... But then it flies on again, and although
We wish it could have stayed,
We are so thankful to have seen it at all.
