STEFAN ZINK

STEFAN ZINK

Stefan Johann (Steve)

Zink

was born on October 23rd, 1920 in Mardisch, Siebenburgen, Romania and was called Home to be with his Lord on April 5th, 2014 at the age of 93 years. He passed away in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital after a very brief illness.

Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret, to whom he was married for 63 years; two daughters, Lilo (Brian) Weatherill of Calgary, Alberta and Rose-Marie (Ken) Brown of Duncan, B.C.; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Keith) Conley, Daniel (Ebony Bertorelli) Weatherill, Jeff (Katlin) Brown, Ashley Brown and Brittney Brown; two great grandchildren, Ashton and Lauren Conley; one brother, Rudolf (Katharina) Zink of Ampfing, Germany; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his only sister, Katharina Bruckner.

Steve lived in Romania and Germany prior to immigrating to Canada in 1949. He came directly to Vernon as he had been sponsored by a family here who were waiting for his arrival. A year later his fiancé Margaret Waffenschmidt, from a nearby village in Romania, immigrated and they were married on July 1st, 1950 in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Steve’s primary occupation was that of a carpenter but he had a great love for his farm and apple orchard. On his farm he had a shop where he spent many enjoyable hours working on various woodworking projects. He loved his family deeply and particularly cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They indeed were the “apple of his eye!” Steve was a former active member of the Lions Club and the Edelweiss Society as well as a current member of the Schubert Centre where he enjoyed playing shuffleboard and socializing with his friends every morning.

Cremation preceded the Memorial Service which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Craig Tufts officiating. A Reception will follow in the Bethel Tea Room.

As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Steve to the Canadian Red Cross, 2809-44th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 7P4 or the Schubert Centre, 3505-30th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 2E6.
