It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce the sudden passing of Stephen Alexander Uzick at his residence in Coldstream, B.C. on January 29th, 2023 at the age of 84 years.
Steve will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jim, Michael and Lisa; one granddaughter, Haylee; and numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine; grandson, Justin and nine siblings.
Steve was born on February 10th, 1938 in Melville, Saskatchewan into a family consisting of ten children, and moved to Vernon, B.C. as a young boy. He didn't speak English but quickly learned the language as he grew up working in orchards, delivering newspapers and playing Jr. Hockey for twelve years with the local Vernon team. He helped score a goal during the game which enabled them to win the 1955 Championship.
During that time he met Lorraine, his bride to be in High School. After their marriage on April 18th, 1960, Steve started working at Noca Dairy and stayed with them for thirty-eight years as they merged with Dairyworld and eventually Dairyland.
During that time he and Lorraine welcomed two sons and an adopted daughter into their family. After the Dairy, he moved on to the Vernon District School Board where he was employed for eight years and then went to work at Village Cheese in Armstrong for seven years.
Steve found his true calling doing Property Assessments for over twenty-five years throughout the Interior.
Steve was a Mason and a Shriner and he loved driving the miniature cars in the Vernon Winter Carnival Parade. He also enjoyed dressing up as 'Snickles' the clown and could be found entertaining both the very young and the elderly alike at various Hospitals and Care Facilities.
When Steve finally retired, he enjoyed his home in the Coldstream and could often times be found sitting on the sundeck enjoying beautiful Kal Lake. He could always be heard saying, "Keep your powder dry!"
"We will miss you Dad. Give Mom a hug for us."
In respecting Steve's wishes, he was cremated and a private Graveside Service at the family plot in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery will take place at a later date.
