Jan 16, 1947 - Mar 11, 2018
Stephen Peter Kuhn Lauman died on March 11, 2018 at Vernon Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his family. Pete was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona on January 16, 1947 and recently celebrated his 71st birthday.

Pete grew up in Arizona with his brother Pat & sister Francee.  After graduating from Agua Fria High School, Pete attended the Colorado School of Mines and the University of Arizona.  He moved to Calgary in 1970 and that is where he met Janis.  They were married in 1972.

In 1975 Pete accepted a job as Planning Technician with the North Okanagan Regional District where he worked until he retired in 2002.

Pete loved the outdoors, enjoying hiking, hunting, camping in both summer and winter, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. As a young father, Pete was a scout leader in both Beaver and Cubs and volunteered as a member of the Camp Hurlburt Committee. Pete had a life long love of books and reading.  He had many books in his collection and he read them all at least once!

Pete was one of the four founders of the Monashee Mountain Men, a club of black powder and muzzle loading firearm shooters in the Shuswap and Okanagan area. The club was formed in 1981 for the 1982 BC Summer Games. In 2012 he was presented with a Honourary Life Membership in the club.

Memories of Pete will be cherished by his wife Janis Lauman, son Rob (Dayna) Lauman, daughter Sarah (Allen) Hanson, grandchildren Lief, Oren, Evelyn and Claire, brother Pat (Jayne) Lauman, sister Francee Lauman, nephew Steve (Karen) Lauman, niece Kendra (Jim) Palmer, Oak & Rozelle, & by other family members and friends.

Pete was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Caroline Lauman and his father, George Wheeler Lauman.

A special thank you to Dr. Gideon Smit and everyone involved in Pete's care, enabling him to achieve his goal of staying at home with his family as long as he could.

A gathering of family & friends will be held at a later date to celebrate Pete's life.  If it is your wish, you may remember Pete with a donation to Vernon Hospice House Society, The Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) Coalition or a charity of your choice.
