Stuart Duncan Lawrence
June 23, 1940 – January 11, 2008
It is with great sadness that we the family of Stuart Lawrence, announce the death of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Stuart was born in Montreal and he never lost his desire to visit and explore his home city. He graduated from Sir George Williams, Loyola, McGill and Gonzaga Universities and taught at the secondary level in Montreal and Vernon. He enjoyed many sports and won recognition as a talented football player. His love of football translated into a twenty-five year coaching career at school and in the community.
His upbeat nature and ever-present optimism will be missed by family and friends. He agreed with Vince Lombardi who said, “Football is like life – it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.” He lived his life by those guidelines. Stuart was a devoted father and valued his family over everything. He was a loyal and generous friend and his death leaves a tremendous void for us all.
He will always be missed and loved by his wife Marie, daughter Karyn (Troy), son Ken (Susan) and grandson Mark.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Kalamalka Country Club (Westkal Road) on January 18, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. to remember and reminisce. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society, #104 – 3402 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S1, would be gratefully accepted. Condolences may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Funeral arrangements are in care of Personal Alternative Funeral Services, 558-0866, Vernon.
