Stuart Fyfe Moir
August 27, 1950 –
August 27, 2013
A lovely, kind man who leaves behind his wife Buffie and two sons Graham (Kristine) and Ian (Megan) as well as his mother Mary-Gordon and brothers Bruce(Gayle), Chris (Gayle), Ken (Jackie) and Phil (Phillipa), and brother -in-law George (Nancy).
Stuart attended UBC where he graduated with a B. Comm., and then went on to attain his C.A. He worked in private practice in Vancouver before starting a career with B.C. Hydro. It was his work at Hydro that gave him and his family the chance to move to Vernon. He loved the Okanagan and the opportunities it provided, especially the chance to be at Silver Star, where he enjoyed weekends skiing, snowshoeing, and visiting with friends at the family retreat in the cabin colony. He loved to sit and read the Economist while stoking the fire. He also enjoyed the time he spent working in his lovely garden and was very proud of the results of his labour.
Many friends and community groups benefitted from his generosity with his time and talents. Over the years he served as president for both the Silver Star Ski Club and Silver Star Property Owners Assoc., and as treasurer of the Vernon Public Art Gallery and Alexis Park Church.
He had never been happier than in the short time since he retired from Hydro. He started his own business, and used the new found free time to get involved in community pursuits. It was giving to others that he found the most rewarding.
Stuart was very proud of the accomplishments of his two sons who have both obtained degrees in business, and was looking forward to seeing Graham follow in his footsteps as a CA.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Those wishing to make contributions in Stuart’s memory are encouraged to donate to the Vernon Public Art Gallery or the charity of their choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
