In Loving Memory ~
On December 24, 2024 Susan left her earthly body after a courageous journey with cancer. Her loving friends deeply miss her brilliant smile, lively sense of humor, bright and active mind and beautiful voice. Susan's loving spirit and generosity graced those she allowed into her circle of friends and was extended to strangers she met from day to day.
Susan was born in Ottawa Ontario to Owen and Gladys Browne on February 21, 1953. Her father was a career army man and thus the family moved frequently between the provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and finally to British Columbia.
When Owen was posted to India, Gladys and the girls moved to England for several years to be closer to Gladys' relatives. Susan reflected that Oxted Surrey England really felt like "home" where living with aunts, uncles and cousins brought her joy.
Susan graduated with a MA in Anthropology from the University of Victoria with a focus on "Spirituality as Evidenced in Aboriginal Beliefs." Her studies took her to communities on the West Coast of BC and created a deep connection to nature. She felt that being near the ocean or paddling her kayak in lakes or rivers set her spirit free. She camped, kayaked and hiked with her friend Trevor.
An accomplished rider, Susan rode horses in Kalamalka Provincial Park with Colleen. Susan was a true animal lover, especially dogs, cats, horses and birds. She could be seen walking dogs Kora and Fawkes in the many parks of Victoria and Vernon.
Music was Susan's primary passion and for many years she sang and acted in musical theatre productions with Valley Vocal Arts. Melina, Susan Currie and other members of VVA became her second family. She was excited that her singing friends planned a carol sing for her at Hospice on December 24 but she left early that day so will have to listen to and sing with them in the great beyond. She also sang with a local band the Knightones and enjoyed them as well.
Susan is survived by her son Jason (Nyssa) and her beloved grandchildren Brynn and Marcus of Victoria BC and her older sister Dianne.
Her friends and family deeply mourn her passing and a Celebration Of Life will be planned in Vernon at a later date to be announced.
