Terpandros “Alex” Tsombas

Passed away peacefully on November 23, 2007, in Vernon, BC. Alex was born in Greece, on the island of Lesvos, on February 20, 1938, to parents Dimitri and Maria Tsombas. He is survived by sisters Nikki, and Gail (John) Pappas of Regina; daughters, Effie (Panagioti) Georgiou, and Maria (Pascali) Karta; grandsons, Alex and George Georgiou, Dimitri and Theodore Karta, all residing in Greece, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Alex served time in the Greek army, and was married to his now ex wife, Leah Combas, in Greece before moving to Canada as a young couple. He loved life and lived it to its fullest, he loved the outdoors and he loved kids. You were always able to see the softer and caring side of Alex around children. He had a “BIG” heart when people were down on their luck.

His first source of employment was as a dishwasher, where it became evident that he had an inborn talent in the kitchen. Over the years, he earned quite a name for himself, working in several famous restaurants and hosting a televised cooking show, later becoming owner/chef of such restaurants as Zorba’s, Calgary; The Epicurean, Calgary and Edmonton, and The Golden Rim & Pasta etc, Golden.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, at 1:00 P.M. at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santa’s Anonymous Society, #2 – 4320 – 29 Street, Vernon V1T 5B8 or to Polson Extended Care, c/o Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2101 – 32 Street, Vernon V1T 5L2.
