Thelma Baziw (nee: Yurkiw) passed away peacefully at the Alexander Wing on June 18, 2007 at the age of 96. Thelma was predeceased by husband Louis (1966), oldest son, Peter (1996), youngest and only daughter Ann Castrucow (2005) and granddaughter, Lorrie (1961). Thelma is survived by sons, Adam (Oksana), Bill and John (Liz), grandchildren, Sherry, Rod, Tobin, Darren, Dean, Murray, Bradley, Monique, Aunouk, Erick, Taurek, Olivia, Michael and Christine, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Thelma was born in Upper Niniv, Western Ukraine on December 10, 1910 and immigrated to Canada with Louis in 1929. In 1936 they moved from Alberta to Vernon where they raised their children. During the war, Thelma was employed by Bulman’s Cannery and later at her son Peter’s, Sunshine Care Lodge, in Coldstream. Thelma loved her flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed spending time in her yard in Anderson Subdivision with her grandchildren, who cherished their Baba. Thelma was very proud of her whole family and their many accomplishments. She will be dearly missed by her whole family. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with Pastor Sean Wong officiating. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make donations may do so to the Alexander Wing of Vernon Jubilee Hospital or to the Salvation Army.
