Thomas Gordon Koenig

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the death of Thomas Gordon Koenig on July 16, 2018 in Vernon, B.C. at the Gateby Residential Care Centre.

Tom was born in Lavesta, Alberta to parents William and Kathrene Koenig. Tom was the eldest of five siblings: Charles (Dec 2017), Melvin (Dec 2013), Marilyn, Donald, and Warren.

Tom moved to the Okanagan about 1946 where his dad ran a small farm on Deep Creek Road near Enderby. They moved to Vernon about 1950 where his dad bought the Deluxe Grocery across from the hospital.

A few years later, his family returned to Alberta while Tom chose to remain in Vernon. Tom met the love of his life, Marceline Towriss, in 1952 and they were married in 1954. He is survived by four children: Linda (John Christie), Jordan (Gilda), Barry (Debbie), Rodney (Laurell), and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

After 35 years of marriage, Tom lost Marci after her battle with cancer in 1989. In 1995, Tom married Darlene Tompkins, who passed away in 2011.

Tom began his working career with the American News Company and shortly after that became an electrician working for Valley Electric in Vernon and then with 1&2 Electric in Vernon until he retired in 1998 when he attained 65 years of wisdom.

Tom had many stories and adventures throughout his life and enjoyed his time regaling others with his sense of humour and tall tales. He and Harry Filipchuck built a cabin on the Westside of Okanagan Lake in 1965 where the family spent their summers enjoying the lake to its fullest. The family still enjoys the cabin and continues making future memories for the upcoming generations.

Tom built a couple boats in his day, the largest one, the "Marceline" was constantly in use and fueled up for his children to enjoy skiing, boating and all sorts of water sports. The construction of the smaller boat is a family tale told when we needed a laugh.

Tom found a caring place that was a blessing for his final year and was able to be comfortable and content thanks to the staff at the Gateby Residential Care Centre.

A celebration of Life will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, B.C. on August 25, 2018 at 10:00 am.

In Lieu of Flowers a donation to the "Alzheimer Society of BC" would be a kind gesture.
