Trevor Earl Schubert

1922 ~ 2010

Trevor Earl Schubert passed away peacefully on Saturyday, May 29, 2010 in Kamloops, BC at the age of 88. He is survived by his loving wife Jean;children Carol (Pat) Cooney of Armstrong, Marion (John) Kinch of Torksey, England, and Ken (Shelley) Schubert of Calgary, AB; his grandchildren, Erin Cooney (David Laferriere) of Vancouver, Ryan Cooney of Victoria, Samuel Schubert-Kinch of Torksey England, and Kimberley Schubert of Kelowna; sisters Shirley Ehlers of Salmon Arm, Audrey Alcock of Vancouver and Norma Peterson of Vernon; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Bert during World War II and by his parents in the early 1980’s.

Trevor was born February 4, 1922 in Armstrong to Gladys and Augustus Schubert. His great grandparents, Catherine and Augustus Schubert, were part of the Overlanders that arrived at Kamloops after an epic journey from Fort Garry (now Winnipeg) in 1862. After Trevor graduated from high school in June 1941, he volunteered with the Royal Air Force and then later Royal Canadian Air Force, completing 2 tours (45 missions) with Bomber Command. While on leave in August 1944, Trevor married Jean Emeny of Enderby. Following WWII, his career spanned over 30 years working for BC Treefruits in Kelowna, Hospital Insurance in Vernon and from 1954 to 1981 for the Provincial Sales Tax Office in Kamloops.

Having grown up on the family farm Trevor enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He also enjoyed the challenge of carrying out a wide variety of do-it-yourself projects. He will be remembered as the family historian having extensively researched and documented the Schubert family tree.

Throughout his life, his sense of humour and love of his family prevailed.

Trevor was always a man of principle and honour, a true gentleman.

The family is extremely grateful for the support and ongoing care by the exemplary management and staff at Berwick on the Park over the last few years. The family also wish to extend their gratitude to Doctors Schumacher and Wiedrick for their long-term care and to the 6 North staff at Royal Inland Hospital more recently.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday June 4, 2010 at Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive, Kamloops. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
