Valma Eileen Jacques (nee Zimmerman) passed away at Gateby Place Vernon, BC on August 25, 2009. Born June 1, 1919 in Gorrie, ON, the eldest of six.
She is survived by her three daughters: Katherine (Dan) Stychyshyn, Yorkton SK; Karen Gilmore (Don Hannas), Summerland, BC and Janette (Bud) Senger, Vernon, BC. Eleven grandchildren: Dana (Greg), Brenda (Pete), Annette (Arthur), Jim (Sarah), Dennis, Donna, Diane (Ken), Katie (Matt), Adelle, Vincent (Sally), Renee (Mike) and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters: Betty (Jean) Andari, Windsor, ON and Bonnie (Jack) Shiell, Wingham, ON; one brother Bill (Karen) Zimmerman, Stratford, ON as well as three aunts: Dorothy Hartman of Listowel, ON; Arnetta Sothern and Jean Sothern of Fordwich, ON and numerous nephews and nieces and extended family. Valma was predeceased by her husband Addison Jacques, sister Audrene Templeman, brother Harry Zimmerman, and grandson David Gilmore.
Valma moved with her husband and three daughters to Summerland in 1953 where she lived until 2007 when poor health prompted her move to Vernon.
She was best known for her cooking and baking. Her home was a gathering place for many fine meals and fun times. She had a very strong work ethic and worked as a cook at the Summerland Hospital during the 60’s and 70’s, retiring in the mid 80’s. She then had a chance to travel, play bingo and enjoy life especially time spent with any family and friends.

A Funeral will be held at the United Church in Summerland on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow.
