Vera Gileff

Mrs. Vera Efimovna Gileff went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, May 17th, 2006. She was born on January 6th, 1936 in the village of Kolki, in the Rovenskaya province of Ukraine. She received an education as both an office accountant and a zootechnician. She lost her Dad, as she thought, during World War II, but later discovered that, by God’s grace, he had survived the war and immigrated to Australia. Later her Dad helped her to emigrate, through Poland, to Australia, where she was reunited with him again after 28 years of separation. In Australia, Vera married Aleksei Gileff on October 30th, 1970. Her only child, David, was born in 1972 in Australia. Vera immigrated to Vernon in 1973 with her husband and son, where they joined a Russian-language church (Slavic Christians Of Evangelical Faith). Vera served the Lord faithfully in the church for many years, singing as an alto in the choir, helping the poor and doing many other deeds of mercy. Over the years, she helped many poor people in Ukraine and other countries by sending them clothing, food and other support. She was a homemaker first and foremost, who showered her family with love. Vera was well known by many in the Okanagan Valley due to her participation as a vendor in many local farmer’s markets, where she sold produce from her garden as well as her handicrafts. During the last six months of her life Vera lived with her son and daughter-in-law, David & Taya in Burnaby, B.C., who were caring for her medical needs and surrounding her with love. Vera is lovingly remembered by her husband, Aleksei, her son and daughter-in-law, David & Taya and her many friends in the Vernon church and worldwide. The Funeral Service will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Monday, May 22nd, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with interment following in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. A Reception will follow the Graveside Service at Vera’s church. Funeral arrangements have been made with BETHEL FUNERAL CHAPEL LTD., 5605-27th Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 8Z5 (1-250-542-1187)
