VERA SCHIELKE

SCHIELKE

VERA RUTH (Sorensen) passed away peacefully with her family at her side on October 31, 2002 at her home in Salmon Arm, BC. Vera was born in Killam, Alberta on February 24, 1927, the youngest of eight children born to Henry and Mable Sorensen. In 1947, Vera married “Kelly” (Elmer Clarence) Schielke. They lived and worked in numerous places throughout Alberta before moving to BC permanently in 1964, while raising their children along the way. Vera worked for various telephone companies in both provinces throughout her life until her retirement in 1987. Vera loved many things in life – she fostered many children and grandchildren and raised them as she raised her natural children: with much love and devotion. Many people will remember her as a second mother/grandmother. Her grandchildren were a special joy to her and she delighted in sewing and crocheting many special things for each of them. Every new baby received a blanket of “love” from mom. She will always be remembered for her sewing, a passion she enjoyed for many years. Her true love of people made all who met her feel special and welcomed. She will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by Kelly and her children: Scott (Sherri), Tyreen (Carol), Susan, Carmen (Gord), Joyce (John) as well as her “chosen” children and grandchildren, brother Richard, sisters Mae and Myrtle and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. A memorial service, with Pastor Bill Kiesman officiating, was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Fischer’s Funeral Services, TCH @ 1st Ave. SW, Salmon Arm, BC, 260-7053.
