Passed away peacefully in Vernon, BC at the age of 88. Born and raised in Kelowna, BC, Yvonne cherished family and friends above all else: Beloved mother of Rob (Danielle); devoted grandmother of Jenna (Darcy) and Sheldon; pre-deceased by loving husband Bill and daughter Alayne, brother George Anderson and sister Alice Jensen.
Yvonne was a skilled musician and homemaker who excelled in fibre arts and food provision, generously sharing her vast knowledge, enthusiasm and wonderful creations with others. Yvonne was deeply involved with her church communities of Westbank and Lumby and openly appreciated the support and comfort she received from friends there. She also gave much, delighting in creating new crafts for the Christmas Bazaar each year!
A proud veteran of WWII and lifelong Legion member, Yvonne married Bill Gordon upon his return from active service.
They settled in Kelowna to raise their family, later moving to Okanagan Mission and eventually to Cherryville, where they could have their horses and grow an abundant garden. Yvonne also taught piano lessons and was well known for providing musical accompaniment for many joyful sing-a-longs at home as well as with the local Legion and her churches both in Westbank and in Lumby. Fishing, camping, playing pool, cards, crafts were her favourite pastimes with friends in retirement years as well as her passion of birds and both a beautiful flower and vegetable garden.
Yvonne touched and inspired many lives through her gifts and acts of kindness and generosity.
Her life will be celebrated on Saturday September 11th 2010 at Lumby United Church. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her ongoing charity in memory of Yvonne to BC Cancer Foundation.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. Lepage, Dr. Wheeldon, and the staff of Polson Multi Care for their support and exceptional, loving care they gave Yvonne in her final years.
