It is with great sadness the family announces that Viola, our mom, gram, and great gram, passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Vernon, BC, on Thursday, June 11, 2009, six days short of her 87th Birthday.
Vi was born on the family homestead near Dundurn, Saskatchewan in 1922. In 1945, Vi and Floyd Brown moved to a 2acre parcel on the Westbench in Penticton and built their first home with a small orchard. She loved to sew, tend to her garden, and watch the golf tournaments on TV.
Vi is survived by her son Robert (Rita) Brown of Kamloops; daughter Barbara Brown (Rob Gordon) of Maple Ridge; her four grandchildren Robert (Tammy) Brown of Armstrong; David (Cheryl) Brown of Edmonton, AB; Carla (Miro) Frybort of Leduc, AB; and Steven Brown of Leduc, AB; and her five great grandchildren Valerie, Brandon, Damon, Keiten and Tea. She is also survived by her brother Douglas and sister Maxine.
Her tenacity, intellect, sense of humor and love for her family and friends will never be forgotten. She was a special lady.
Vi was predeceased by her husbands, Floyd Brown and Bruce Nicholson; her son Alan Wayne Brown; her parents, father Jalmer Swanson and mother Florence Campbell; four brothers Elmer, Donald, Kenneth, and Leonard, and one sister Pauline.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at the Vernon Jubilee hospital for their care and the Hospice House on making Vi safe and comfortable in her final days.
By request, Vi wanted no service but wanted all her family and friends to gather for drinks and laughs at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Viola to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 27th Avenue; Vernon, BC, V1T 1S4. Arrangements in the care of Personal Alternative Funeral Services, Armstrong, 250 546-7237.
