It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce our beloved Violet was called home to her Father on November 10th, 2016.
On September 13th, 1923 Violet and twin sister entered this world in Regina, Saskatchewan. The twins were the last
two of 11 born to Ellert and Rosa Hanson. Violet was predeceased by her first husband Frank in 1957, her second husband Mike in 1978, her brothers Harold, Bert, and Roy and her sisters Opal, Bertha, Ethel, Bernice, Vera, Myrtle, and Verna. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Dallas (Mila) of Kamloops, Dean (Sue) of Williams Lake, Francis (Bill) of Vernon and stepsons Michael (Carmen) of Oyama, Randy (Jill) of Vernon; five grandchildren Ryan (Jessica) of Calgary, Grant (Michelle) of Calgary, Parker (Alisha) of Williams Lake, Tiffany (Jay), and Martin. Six step grandchildren Michael of Vernon, Diana (Dave) of Prince George, Chrissy of Vancouver, Jennifer of Vernon, Jodi (James) of Vernon, Casey of Vernon, and Tyson (Amy) of Williams Lake, seven great grandchildren, Raeanne, Jaylene, Nickie, Harriet, Oscar, Kinsley and Jackson and six step great grandchildren, Alejandra, Amelya, Nathan, Odin, Jandin, and Ryden.
Violet married the love of her life Frank Forsberg on November 28th, 1946. They made their home in Preeceville, Sask. There were many losses in their young marriage and finally they decided on adoption of Dallas Wayne in 1955, then came a birth son Dean William in 1956, and a birth daughter Francis Verna in 1957. Frank never saw their daughter as he succumbed to effects of rheumatic fever in May of ‘57. Violet had her teachers certificate but when widowed she worked at the Municipal Hall in Preeceville and at the Preeceville Marshall Wells. In April of 1965, Violet married Michael Benz and moved the family to Williams Lake, B.C.
Violet loved people and touched many lives with her numerous stories, lively conversation, and hospitality. Her kitchen was always filled with the smells of baking, five-course meals for whomever was in the house at the time, and laughter. Entertaining was her gift, her home in Preeceville and in Williams Lake were always abuzz with lively games, music, dancing, cards, and a spirit or two for good measure. Violet was able to put her teaching to practice in Williams Lake and when she retired it was from the School District Administration Board.
In 2011 Violet moved into the Vernon Restholm and she was embraced, loved and cared for by the residents and staff. It was a feeling of dropping your child off at preschool and being told that Violet will be okay as she will be loved as family and always be watched over and safe. A Celebration of Life will be held in 2017 at Violet’s final resting place alongside her husband Frank at Memorial Gardens in Regina, Sask.
