MORPHET
VIOLET E. MORPHET, a long time resident of Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, May 7th, 2003 in the Gateby Intermediate Care Residence. She was 86 years old and had lived a very full life. Vi’s main passion was dogs, especially the breeding and showing of Scottish Terriers. She left behind a legacy in the form of Vi-Mor Meadows, eight acres on Buchanan Road that was once part of the historic Coldstream Ranch. The grounds have been developed into a beautiful and scenic location where many dog shows have been held over the years. Vi was born in Montreal, Quebec and in her younger days she worked on a cruise ship and was a Buyer for Eatons, which eventually brought her to Vernon, where she co-owned the French Shoppe. Vi then went to work at the Vernon & District Credit Union and stayed there until her retirement. She also had a large part in starting up Silver Star Ski Hill, the Vernon Winter Carnival and the Vernon Golf Club, where she donated a trophy for many years. Vi loved to travel, play golf, bridge, bowl, show dogs and was generous to a fault. Last, but certainly not least, she was a very good friend and she will be missed. Cremation preceded the Celebration Of Life Service which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, May 13th, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. with Reverend Allan Dawe officiating. A Reception will follow in the Tea Room at Bethel Funeral Chapel. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Vi to the Vernon & District Animal Care Society, P.O. Box 1564, Vernon, B.C. V1T 8C2. Funeral arrangements have been made with BETHEL FUNERAL CHAPEL LTD., 5605-27th Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 8Z5 (1-250-542-1187).
