It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Walt Lesyk on February 11, at his home in Vernon, he was in his 85th year.
Walt was born in Myrnam, AB to William and Anne Lesyk in 1935. Growing up on a farm was hard work with endless chores but he learned the ability to fix anything and repair everything. He completed his senior matriculation in 1954 and went to Radio school in Edmonton.
He is survived by two sisters; Olga Clark of Calgary and Gladys (Art) Kempthorne of Ladner. Also 2 nieces & 2 nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Susan & Pat.
Walt had a distinguished career with the Federal Government as an Air Traffic Controller. He spent 28 years at Vancouver International Airport with a 2 year work deployment at Goose Bay, Labrador. Retirement came in 1986 with a 30 year service award.
In 1960 he married Fran (Thirsk) and raised a family together in Surrey. Fran lost her cancer battle in 1993. They were blessed with 2 children; Brad (Lynette) and Wendy (Vince) Clifton and 2 grandchildren Dayton (Milena) and Paige.
The family enjoy many years of camping and boating at Canim Lake. He also built a camper from scratch that the foursome christened on a trip to Disneyland. His hobbies included golfing, curling & RVing and he became a self taught computer guru.
In 1995 Walt moved to Vernon, built a new home and met Moyreen, his later years were spent in the Okanagan and snow birding in Yuma. They also enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean, Panama, South America and Australia and several visits to Mexico. He also loved his workshop, all orderly and organized and spent hours on our sunny deck.
Walt is survived by his second wife, Moyreen Tucker, her three children; Rob (Tracy) McKechnie, Heather (Allan) King and Barb (Jeff) Boschert, and nine grandchildren. Taylor (Zach) Keith, Madeleine & Colton McKechnie, Micheal, Alexandra, Spencer & Jordan King and Beck & Boyd Boschert.
The family would like to thank all the staff at VJH, paramedics and all the pallative nurses at Community Care.
Special Thanks to Dr. Colyn Pienaar for is compassionate care and unwavering support.
Walt will be dearly missed by his family & friends. A celebration of life will be held February 15th at 2pm at Knox Presbyterian Church on Alexis Park Drive. Rev. Dr. Teresa Charlton officiant. Tea to follow in church hall.
Private family burial to be held in Surrey at a later date.
