April 19, 1934 - September 12, 2019
Martin Lilburn, born in Vancouver, B.C. passed away peacefully with his family at his side in Vernon, B.C. on Sept. 12, 2019 at the age of 85. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Ingram Lilburn, his children Theresa (Gary), Graham (Syndi), Tim (Liz), Paddy (Colleen) and Kathleen, sister Juhli and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Martin was predeceased by his daughter Karen and his parents Paddy and Grace.
Martin, a true gentleman, was loved by all that knew him. He respected and treated everyone with kindness. Martin was a fixture in Vernon as he ran the Okanagan Restaurant with his father Paddy for many years. His career included, Empress Hotel in Victoria, weather ships out of Victoria where he travelled through the Panama Canal and up the east coast, supply ships which took him to Japan; and, Eaton's, Sears and the Morning Star in Vernon. His last working years were spent at Schubert Center in Vernon when he finally retired at the age of 80.
At the age of 78, Martin fulfilled his lifelong dream of traveling to Ireland to find his family and roots, which he did in spades. His proudest achievement in life was being a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Martin's family would like to thank all the round-the-clock nurses and staff in the Dementia Unit at Creekside Landing for all the wonderful care they gave our father and support they gave to our family.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia to help with research so we can one day find a cure.
