May 13, 1935 - Apr 14, 2018
Bert Kiselbach passed peacefully just short of his 83rd birthday in Vernon, BC. He was the eldest son of the late Marie and Daniel Kiselbach.

Bert is survived by his common law wife Shirley Kachuk and her children Sharon, Cheryl and Bill, his sons Dan, Kent, and Aaron, his grandson Jason, his sisters Marlene and Lauretta and his brothers Ken and Don.

Bert had strong Prairie roots. He was born on the farm in Colmer, Saskatchewan. As a boy he drove a cutter to York Lake School (a farm school), attended the Simpson School in Yorkton, (a one room schoolhouse), and Yorkton Collegiate Institute. Bert's favourite activities as a farm boy included baseball, skating, riding, and "horse hockey".

Bert moved to BC in the late 1950s, married the late Joyce Leona Morse and raised a family in the Lower Mainland. In 1980 he met and married the late Diane Stephens and supported her sons (David and Ted). On his retirement Bert moved to Grand Forks and to Vernon to spend his remaining years with Shirley.

Bert was a long-term BC Corrections Service employee. He loved working with his hands.

His favourite place in the house was the garage. He seemed most happy when he was in his overalls and in the middle of a car repair or house renovation project. He enjoyed the odd golf game, and was an avid fan of the Vernon Vipers Junior A Hockey Team. He had an important impact in the community and devoted countless hours towards supporting individuals as an AA sponsor. His big heart, guidance, and kind words will be missed.

Bert's family wishes to thank everyone who supported him during his battle with prostate cancer and heart disease, particularly Drs Gilhooly, Lavoie, Cunningham and Humphries.

The family offers special thanks to AA in Vernon, Pastor David Hunter, the Peace Lutheran Church Congregation, and the staff of Creekside Landing.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bert's memory to Alcoholics Anonymous / Vernon Treatment or Peace Lutheran Church Vernon, BC.

A Celebration of Bert's Life will be held on May 12 at 1 pm at Peace Lutheran Church located at 1204 30th Ave., Vernon, BC. A reception and refreshments will follow.
