We regret to announce the sudden passing of Wilfred Henry Blair at the age of 81 on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Wilf was born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1926 and is survived by his loving wife Rose, one sister, Lillian of Font Hill, Ontario and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald and sister Marion.
During the latter part of World War II, Wilf, still in his “teens”, enlisted in the Canadian Armed forces and following his discharge at the war’s end trained as an electrical tradesman. He and Rose moved to Vernon in 1962. An avid outdoorsman, Wilf enjoyed hunting, fishing and
camping. He and Rose spent many happy hours camping and fishing at area lakes and they particulary enjoyed participating in various fishing derbies. During the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s Wilf was employed on many of the province’s major hydro electric projects. He was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union for more than 50 years, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a long time member of the Army, Navy and Air force Veterans in Canada Unit No. 5.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of choice may be made in his memory. A special gathering of immediate family members will be held to pay tribute to Wilf’s memory in place of a public memorial service.
