A longtime resident of Vernon, WILFRED SELWYN SCOTT, passed away at Hospice House on November 27, 2002, following a short illness with cancer. Selwyn was born in Nakusp on July 24, 1923, and received his schooling and early work experience in Kimberley. He joined the R.C.N.V.R. as a Sick Berth Attendant, trained and served at the R.C.N. Hospital in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and at sea, aboard HMCS Morden and HMCS Cap-de-la-Madeleine. He is lovingly remembered by Fay, his wife of 56 years; two sons and their wonderful wives; Selwyn (Maeva) and children Ryan Scott (Kari-Anne Raphael), Kaela (Mike Leclair) and Robert (Ruby) and children Nicholas and Latisha; and great-grandson Rowen Scott. Returning after demobilization, Selwyn and Fay were married on January 26, 1946, at Cranbrook. Selwyn worked as First Aid Attendant at Universal Box Lumber Co., Nursing Orderly at Vancouver General Hospital, and settled on a career in Psychiatric Nursing. He spent 32 years with the Provincial Health Services and retired as Associate Director of Nursing at Dellview Hospital in Vernon in August 1984. He enjoyed a long and happy retirement on their smallholding on Pleasant Valley Road in Vernon.
