January 30, 1927 - March 5, 2019
With great sadness, we announce the passing of William (Bill) Barnes only hours after he gathered family to say goodbye. He was a perfectionist to the end.

Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sandie (Agnes) Barnes, his daughters Debbie Clarke (Bob) and Teresa Kernahan (Cam); five grandchildren Kelly and Kyle (Johanna) Clarke, Hillary (Robbie) Davidson, Sydney and Austin Kernahan; and two great grandchildren Keira and Isla Clarke.

Bill was born in Wainwright AB, and raised amidst the growing oil industry. He loved to learn about mechanics. With an eye for detail and perfect hand, Bill excelled in a long career in the Shell Oil drafting department.

On a blind date, Bill met the love of his life Sandie Silver, and they lived a fulfilling life in Alberta and BC, with many winters in California. Bill was a loving father, a popular uncle and neighborhood 'dad'. As an excellent woodworker, Bill loved "cutting large pieces into smaller pieces" for home improvements, furniture and toys. Bill was the 'BBQ king', and with Sandie, treasured time with extended family. After retirement, Bill and Sandie moved from Calgary to Sorrento, then Vernon. Bill was active and involved in community, especially the Vernon Lawn Bowling Club, where he was instrumental in creating the Polson Park clubhouse, and bringing lawn bowling into 'Funtastic'.

Bill had new opportunities for fun and mischief with his five grandchildren who cherish their memories with Grandpa, and appreciate his quiet mentorship to work hard and laugh often. He enjoyed creative times with the kids and loved playing cards, more for the value of connection than the chance to win. He was thrilled to see the addition of great-grandchildren. Bill's humour, gentle nature, curiosity, and love of good food stayed with him until the end.

The family wishes to acknowledge the long time exemplary care by Dr. Dave Arnold, and in the final days, the staff at Hearthstone Manor. As per his wishes, Bill was cremated with a private family celebration to follow.

Cremation arrangements have been made with Bethel Funeral Chapel Ltd.,
