was born in Chaplin, SK on July 8th, 1921 and passed away in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on October 28th, 2009 at the age of 88 years.
Bill is survived by his sons, Peter and his mother, Yanny, Wayne (Diane) and Terry; his daughter, Gloria (Ed) Kozlowski; Elma Brown, the mother of Bill’s children; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed dearly by his soul-mate and caregiver for many years, Gertie Kolodychuk.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie and all of his nine siblings.
In 1942 Bill joined the Canadian Army in Regina and was sent overseas to serve in England then later in France, Belguim, Holland and Germany where he remained until the end of WW11 in 1945. Upon returning to Canada in early 1946, he worked on a farm that summer and then made his home in Vernon where his parents had moved. Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #25, the Army, Navy & Airforce #5 and also had a 54 year membership in the Local 170 as a Plumber. He enjoyed playing cards, especially crib, horseshoes, curling and loved to go out dancing.
The Funeral Service will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Al Perry and Reverend Diane Brown officiating. Cremation will follow. The family invites friends to join them in a Reception following the service in the Bethel Tea Room.
