With deep sadness we announce the passing of William (Bill) Gordon Lim, age 86. He departed this life peacefully Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at his daughter’s home. Bill was born February 17, 1928 to Lim Po Sing (aka Harry Lim) and Jung Yee Moy (aka Helen Lim) in Hagersville, Ontario.
Bill became a member of the Chinese-Canadian Association of Toronto (CCA) in his early 20s where he met Evelyn Yip, whom he married in 1956, and had three children, David, Wendy and Michael, who survive. He is also survived by long-time common-law partner Eva Partel, sisters Mary and Kay, and numerous grandchildren.
Bill graduated from the University of Toronto in 1949 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. For the majority of his working life, he worked in the pulp and paper industry which took him from Ontario to New Brunswick and to British Columbia. Upon retirement, he settled in Vernon, BC for 10 years prior to relocating two years ago to Vancouver Island to be close to his family.
For more than 60 years, Bill had a great love and passion for the game of Duplicate Bridge attaining the rank of Life Master. He spent many years as Director for the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). His propensity and love of teaching was expressed informally when sharing this? skill and love of Bridge to eager less experienced players, as well as ?professionally when he taught Math and Chemistry at the College of New Caledonia (Prince George).
In his retirement, Bill and Eva spent considerable time travelling, both domestically and internationally. As a great lover of routine, he enjoyed daily outings for lunch or a good bridge game.
Although he is gone, Bill will not be forgotten in the hearts of all.
