William “Bill” Mackie


WILLIAM “Bill” JAMES MACKIE was born in Stettler, Alberta on February 1, 1916 and passed away in Vernon Jubilee Hospital on February 8, 2006. Bill was a WWII Vet who served with Royal Corps of Engineers in England, Holland, France, and Germany. On return to Canada, he started and ran a successful concrete culvert manufacturing business in Grimshaw, Alberta for 18 years. Retiring to Vernon in 1967, he eventually moved out to the West Side Road where he developed Estamont Beach Subdivision. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene of 61 years; brother John of Grande Prairie, Alberta; daughter Myrna (Gordon) Manning of Drumheller, Alberta; three sons, Robert and Ronald of Vernon and Lorne (Wilma) of Calgary; several grandchildren and great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. At Bill’s request , there will be no funeral. Private Cremation Service arranged with Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so, may make donations in memory of Bill to their favorite charity.
