William (Bill) McGiverin

April 5, 1953 - July 19, 2023
With heavy hearts and great sadness, the family of Bill McGiverin announce his passing on July 19th, 2023 in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 70 years.
Bill will be forever and lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Wendy, his son Ryan of Vernon, B.C., his daughter Tara of Victoria, B.C., his granddaughters Peyton and Madison of Vernon, B.C., his daughter-in-law Shaina McGiverin of Vernon, B.C. and Grand fur baby Finn of Victoria, B.C., his brothers; Mack (Brenda), Gerald (Cynthia) and Robert, his sister Patricia (Ken) Schley, his brother-in-law Gary Mylie (Carolyn) along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents; Michael & June McGiverin, his brother; John McGiverin and by his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Bruce and Kathleen Mylie.
Bill was born on April 5th, 1953 in Port Alberni, B.C. and was raised in Coquitlam, B.C. where he met Wendy and married on September 13th, 1975. He was an Iron Worker by trade (Local 97) and later in his career he became and found passion as a Construction Safety Manager.
Bill was a Volunteer Firefighter in Lumby for many years. He also served on council for the Village of Lumby for several terms. He was passionate about volunteering in the community of Lumby which led him to work with the Chamber of Commerce, the Lumby Lions Club, he served as President of the Funtastic Sports Society (Lumby & Vernon) and was a Director / Official of the Okanagan BC Summer Swimming Association.
Bill took comfort in the support he received from the Vernon Parkinson's Support Group and we ask if anyone is so inclined, to make a donation in memory of Bill to the Parkinson Society of British Columbia.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 30th from 1:00 - 4:00pm at the Spruce Landing Clubhouse (3900 - 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C.). We invite you to come and share your memories of Bill with everyone.
