With great sadness we announce the passing of WILLIAM (Bill) MIKALISHEN on January 13, 2005 in the Theodore Health Centre, Theodore, Sk., age 81, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered, and greatly missed by his wife, Betty, to whom he was married for 57 years, two sons, Dan Mikalishen of Kamloops, B.C., Larry (Jamie) Mikalishen of Las Vegas, Nevada, two daughters Elaine (Billy) Haner of Vernon, B.C., Karen Raddysh of Vernon, B.C., son-in-law Conrad Raddysh of Theodore, Sk., six grandchildren Shawn and Melissa Haner, Kyle and Karly Raddysh, Skylar and Memphis Mikalishen and one great grandchild Oakley Haner; one sister, Jenny Elsom and two brothers, Mike and Steve, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by brothers Peter, John and Alex.
Bill was born in Grindrod, B.C. on February 10th, 1923 and made his home in Kamloops before moving to Vernon in 1973. Bill was employed by Sears in Kamloops and then the Vernon store for 32 years.
He was a bingo caller at the Schubert Centre in Vernon for many years and loved to play the accordion with the Old Time Fiddlers, and Big John’s Band. He moved to Saskatchewan in 1997 where he spent his last years working on his son-in-law’s farm, doing what he liked best, combining. Bill loved his yard and garden, and enjoyed golfing. Bill was an active member in the Theodore Senior Citizen Club and the Theodore Heritage Society. Bill will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held in Theodore, Saskatchewan on January 19, 2005, with interment of Bill’s cremated remains to be held at the family plot in Grindrod, B.C. at a later date.
