We regret to announce the passing of William “Bill” Thomas Duggan at Vernon Hospice House on Saturday, January 31st, 2009 at the age of 86 years.
Bill was born in Kelowna in 1923 and remained there until he went into service during WWII with the 5th Anti-Tank Regiment from 1942 to 1946. In 1949, he married Agda Anderson and moved the family to Vernon in 1957. They settled on their hobby farm on Black Rock Road in 1958 where they remained until 2001.
From early childhood, Bill’s passion was raising horses. At age sixteen he traded his bicycle for his first horse which he brought home to his parents’ back yard in town in Kelowna. This love he shared with his kids and grandchildren; involving them in gymkana’s, parades and riding clubs. He loved sports; especially boxing. He loved his animals, music and always looked forward to family get-togethers.
Bill is survived by his loving family: one daughter, Dianne (Rick) Tompkins of Vernon, four sons, Gary (Sandi) of Prince George, B.C., Robin (Sharon), Reg (Patti) all of Vernon and Warren (Carol) of Edmonton, Alberta; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Agda, of 53 years in 2001, two brothers, Keith and Bryan and one sister, Mary and his parents, Tom and Nel.
The Memorial Service for Bill will be held on Saturday, February 7th, 2009 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with Mr. Brian Jackson officiating. Following the service, family and friends will gather in the Pleasant Valley Tea Room for a reception.
The family would like to thank the staff at Comfort Living, Hospice House for their support and caring hearts.
