1930 – 2017

With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of long time Vernon resident, Bill Bryan, on July 19, 2017.

Bill was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in a family with five brothers and sisters who remained close to him throughout his life. Bill met and married his high school sweetheart, Louise Haines, and moved, in 1954, to Vernon to start a life in Okanagan Landing. They resided on the lake for many years as they raised their two daughters: Colleen and Laurel. Bill was a founding member of the Vernon Yacht Club and active in local power squadron. His love of the lake had him sailing on his boat, scuba diving or enjoying happy hour on the “crafty rafty”. Bill had a successful career with Okanagan Telephone followed by B.C. Telecommunications where he retired in 1984.

After Louise’s passing in 1987, Bill met and married, Irene Wieler, giving him a loving relationship for the rest of his life. Together they travelled, wintering

in Arizona and spending many happy times together with their blended family. The addition of their four-legged love, Katie, brought them further joy.

Bill is survived by: his wife, Irene; daughters: Colleen (Gary) and Laurel; grandson, Jaxon; and brother, Robert (Joan). Also survived by: his step children: David (Brenda), Lenora (Al), Audrey (Dale), and Karen (Miles); many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family expresses the utmost gratitude to Dr. Waldron for his continued care and support and to the Polson Care Facility staff for their kindness during a difficult time. Appreciation is expressed to Dr. Lavoie and Dr. Abdel-Kader, as well as his Interior Health team.

At Bill’s request, there will be no formal service. A private family gathering will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Bill’s name to the Canadian Mental Health Society.

Bill will always remain in our hearts as the kind, gentle and humorous man we love.
