William Gray Smith


We regret to announce the death at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on April 28, 2005, of Mr. William gray Smith at the age of 82 years. Gray was a veteran, serving with the Canadian Navy during World War Two, on a minesweeper. He was a resident of Vernon for over 50 years, and was Commanding Officer of the Navy League Cadets and the Sea Scouts for over 20 years. His other great love was for his family and for fishing. Gray was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jessie, in 1999, and by grandson W. James two months ago. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by sons; Glen (Carolynn) of Vernon, Grant (Judie) of Morinville, and Jim (Catherine) of Stettler; daughter Gail Gauthier of Vernon; and grandchildren; Ryan (Mary), Trevor, Christopher, Heather, Tara, Dawn (Jamie) and Scott (Olivia). He is also survived by great-grandchildren; Cole, Courtney, Connor, Brianna, Tierra and Reece; and many extended family members. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, at 2:00 P.M., at Trinity United Church, with the Reverend Sheila Odney officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends wishing to do so may make donations in memory of Gray to either B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation, 202-3402-27 Ave., Vernon, V1T 1S1; the Canadian Diabetic Assn., Box 1301, Vernon, V1T 6N6; or to a charity of choice.
