Passed away peacefully in his home in Vernon on the morning of June 26th. Bill was 79 years old. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan, also by his family Charlie (Laura & Robyn), Jim (Marg, Andrea, Jennifer), Karen Ritchie (Jim, Matt, Amanda, Stuart) Margaret, Michael (Sue).
Bill was born in Forgét Sask. Dec. 4, 1925. He moved to Grindrod in 1930 where he grew up and attended school. After school he worked for Boeing Aircraft, and later joined the R.C.A.F. Following his discharge, he took his linemans training in Nanaimo and started work with B.C. Power Commission (Later B.C. Hydro). He worked as a lineman in the Vernon District for 37 years, retiring in 1984. Bill filled his 20 years of retirement with gardening, skating, reading and “working in the bush” at his Grindrod property. He was also a member of the BC Hydro Power Pioneers. In May 2001 Bill was diagnosed with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrigs Disease).
A memorial tea will be held to remember Bill on Thursday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. in the All Saints Anglican Church Hall. In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Bill may make donations to the A.L.S. Society.
