WILLIAM JAMES RUMLEY

RUMLEY

William James “Bill” (Smiley as his close friends called him) passed away peacefully at his residence in Enderby, BC, surrounded by the love of his family, on Friday, March 5, 2004 at the age of 74 years. Smiley was born in Widewater, Alberta on November 24, 1929 and had resided in the Armstrong and Enderby area for the past 38 years. Smiley was always ready with a cup of coffee and his hospitality. He was friend to all even those he just met. He always trusted your word and always gave you the benefit of the doubt. He was true to his word and expected the same from you. Dad’s motto was “Skookum”. He built everything to withstand any test of God. From his first huge project “the A-frame” to the metal chandelier hanging down from the living room, to the bird houses he chose to build later in life. Dad was a handyman who took pride in all that he built. Smiley was a natural leader and a risk taker. Loved spending time in the great outdoors especially with his family and grandchildren around him. He loved the country oldies and dancing with mom. His most famous weekend pastime was the garage sales. He especially enjoyed the ones in Grande Prairie. Boy what deals he found. Smiley will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Gladys; one son, John “Wendi” of Dawson Creek and their children, Jordan and Cole; four daughters, Helen (Karikoga) Bamhare of Medicine Hat and their children, Lisa and Tasha; Sherry Rumley of Creston and her children, Eric, Jennifer, Timothy and Katherine; Joann (Rick) Knorr of Grande Prairie and their children, Keith and Zack; Colleen (Kerry) Fox of Enderby and their children, Kevin, Ryan, Kurtis, Travis and Jalene. A celebration of Smiley’s life was held from the Mountainside Room of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm on Tuesday, March 9th at 1 pm. If so desired, contributions in memory of Smiley may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 3451, Salmon Arm, BC V1E 4S2. Arrangements were in the care of Bowers Funeral Home and Crematorium, Salmon Arm. Condolences may be sent to sympathy@bowersfuneralservice.com
