WILLIAM THOMAS REID passed away peacefully in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Saturday, January 17th, 2004, at the age of 75 years William was born on December 18th, 1928 in Wainwright, AB. He is survived by his brother Fred (Lou) Reid of Burlington. ON, one sister Ivene (Bob) Ellis of Richmond, BC, niece Brenda McDonald and grand nephew Ryan McDonald of Edmonton, AB, nephew Randy (Patti) Reid & grand niece Ann-Marie & grand nephew Kevin Reid, all of Burlington, ON, niece Barbara (Jim) Jacobson, of Maple Ridge, BC and nephew R. John Ellis of Vancouver, BC, and numerous cousins in Ontario, USA and England. William is further survived by his very special neighbor and friend Steve Lumley of Armstrong, BC, long time friends, Shirley & Frank Daugherly, Marcia & Dennis Gilbert and their families, Eileen & Keith Gilbert and their family, Helen & John Hampel (Dawson Creek) and their family. Bill was predeceased by his older sister Lorna Kristensen in June of 1999. Bill started working for the Wainwright Post Office in 1951 and in 1958 transferred to Dawson Creek Post Office where he worked as Assistant Post Master until he retired in 1980. William moved to Spallumcheen in 1989 where he has resided since then. Bill enjoyed a good and rewarding life in his earlier years, he was a confirmed bachelor who loved hunting, fishing, roaming the backcountry, woodworking, carpentry, gardening, and photography. During his later years he suffered from a number of medical problems that curtailed his activities to a very considerable extent. At the end he could not overcome the complications of heart disease and emphysema. For the last few years he was never free from pain. At Bill’s request there will be no funeral service. Cremation. His cremains will be interred in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery at a later date. Those friends wishing to make memorial contributions in memory of Bill may do so to the Vernon Cancer Clinic, Vernon Hospice House, Vernon Jubilee Endowment Foundation or to the Cardiac Unit, St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC.
