With deepest sorrow, we regret to announce that Willis (Bill) Franklin Whitnack passed away in the Vernon Hospice House on January 18, 2006 at the age of 81. Born the seventh of thirteen children, Dec. 26, 1924, on a farm near Zetland, Alberta, Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years Vera, his 3 children Don and Janet of Vernon, Rod of New Westminster, son in-law Rob and daughter-in-law Penny. His life also enriched the lives of his 6 grandchildren Michael, Christopher, Jenna, Dustin, Mitchell and Dylan. His family and many friends will fondly remember Bill, as he was always ready with a smile, a joke, or a helping hand. He was very active in square dancing, pitching horseshoes, and playing crib.
He served as chairman of his strata council, as president of the Vernon square dance club as well as president of the Okanagan Valley Square Dance Association and the local horseshoe club. Bill wanted to have his friends and family celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing, and with respect for his wishes we will hold a celebration of his life at 1pm on Wednesday January 25, 2006 at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home 4303 Pleasant Valley Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Vernon and District Hospice Society 3506 27th Avenue Vernon, BC V1T 1S4.Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home 542-4333.
