Wilson McPherson Hutchison
April 11, 1925 – June 12, 2010
The family and friends of Wilson (Will) Hutchison are sad to announce his passing on Saturday June 12 at Heritage Square seniors’ residence.
Wilson Hutchison was born in Morse, Saskatchewan in 1925 and established an early career with James Richardson and Sons in Winnipeg and Vancouver. In 1957 he met and married Jacoba (Jackie) Vander Hoek of Abbotsford. A few years later they moved to Vernon where Wilson has lived ever since. He served a variety of employers faithfully over the years including Seymour Equipment and the Village Green Mall. Wilson was active in community service with the Red Cross, Santas Anonymous and the John Howard Society. He and Jackie and their four children were longtime Coldstream residents where they welcomed visitors from near and far and maintained an extensive vegetable garden.
A noted calorie burner all his life, Wilson greatly enjoyed dinners with his family. He also enjoyed attending Vipers games wearing his “lucky” hat. In earlier years, he was often seen at various grandchildren’s Saturday soccer games.
Wilson was predeceased by his wife Jackie in 2005. He is survived by his only first cousin, Bill, of Winnipeg, daughters Laurie (Rob) Vanderhorst, Coraleen (Wayne Grassie), and Charlene, son George (Marie Shabits), grandchildren Matthew (Miranda) Vanderhorst, Jessica (Alex) Pearson, Braden Vanderhorst, Cody Grassie and Logan Grassie and many brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces by marriage.
A private viewing will be held at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home with cremation to follow. A memorial tea is planned for a later date where all friends and family are welcome to relive old times. The date, time and location of the memorial tea will be advertised soon in the Morning Star. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Santas Anonymous, Alzheimer Society of B.C. or the Canadian Red Cross.
