Winifred Evelyn Phillips (nee East) passed away quietly on Sundy, August 6, 2006 at David Lloyd-Jones Home in Kelowna, at the age of 97. Born May16, 1909 in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, she was predeceased by her parents Alfred John East & Ruth Mace East (nee Webb), her older sister Ruth East, brothers John, Charles, & William East, and her husband Cecil A. (Ching) Phillips of Vernon. Left to miss her dearly are her son William H. (Bill) Phillips (Margret) of Okanagan Falls, and daughter Marilyn Brickenden (Gordon) of Kelowna; six grandchildren: Paul, Christa and C. William
Phillips, Lorena Brickenden, Marianne (Brad) Dahl, and Tom (Cathy) Brickenden, and great-grandchildren Alexa and Landon of Summerland; plus numerous nieces and nephews & extended family. Win emigrated from England to Canada with her family in 1911, settling first in Hughenden, AB, then on to the Lumby/Lavington are where Win attended school. She moved to Vernon in 1927 to enter Vernon Jubilee Hospital Nurses Training School, graduating as a Registered Nurse from the Class of 1930. She married Cecil in 1931 and they continued to work and raise their family in Vernon until his death in 1969. Win lived on in Vernon until, at age 92, she moved to Kelowna to be closer to her family, where she was a resident of Fernbrae Manor, Stillwaters, and David Lloyd-Jones Home. The Family extends a big “Thank you” to Dr. Alexis Thomson and all the Staff at DLJ for their patient, loving care.
A “Celebration of Life” service will be held on Friday, September 1st, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland, Ave., Kelowna. Tributes in Win’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
